E-invoice

XRechnung viewer: open an e-invoice online and read it

An XRechnung is an XML file — a browser or a text editor shows nothing but code. Choose the file here and you see the invoice: seller, buyer, lines, VAT, totals and bank details. ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs work too: the viewer shows the embedded XML.

No file chosen
Or paste XML

XML or PDF, up to 5 MB — or just drop a file here. No sign-up, no allowance to spend.

The view is built in your browser — the file is not uploaded for it. Only “Check” sends it to our API, which checks it in memory and then discards it.

One click checks the file right here — downloading is optional.

  • ValidValid invoice (UBL)

Passes validation cleanly. A good starting point for your own mapping.

  • ValidValid invoice (CII)

The same invoice in the second permitted syntax, UN/CEFACT CII.

  • ValidValid invoice (ZUGFeRD PDF)

A hybrid of readable PDF and embedded CII invoice — produced by NormAPI generation, verified like every sample.

Why an XRechnung does not open like a PDF

An XRechnung has no page to look at. It is a data record under the European standard EN 16931, made for accounting software rather than people. Whoever receives one by email without suitable software sees nothing but tags like <cbc:PayableAmount>.

Since 2025 every business in Germany has to be able to receive e-invoices. A viewer is the simplest way to read a single one without installing anything.

What the viewer shows

The header (invoice type, number, date, due date, delivery date or period, buyer reference or Leitweg-ID), seller and buyer with address, VAT ID and contact, every line with quantity, unit price and VAT rate, the VAT breakdown, the totals down to the amount due, and payment means, IBAN, BIC, remittance information and payment terms.

Every field carries its BT number from EN 16931. Validation messages and questions from the issuer refer to those numbers.

Convert an XRechnung to PDF

“Save as PDF or print” opens the browser’s print dialog; “Save as PDF” there turns the view into a PDF file to forward, approve or file. The printout names the file, the time and the file’s SHA-256 checksum, so it stays clear which XML it shows.

The PDF is a readable copy, not an e-invoice. What you have to keep is the XML file itself, as it arrived.

A check, if you want one

Below the invoice, one click checks it against the official KoSIT rule set, the same check as the validator. It shows whether mandatory fields are missing, amounts do not add up or codes are invalid, and explains every finding in plain language.

What happens to your file

The view is built in your browser; the file does not leave your computer for it. Only when you choose “Check” does it go to our API, where it is checked in memory and then discarded. We store no invoice content.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open an XRechnung?

Without software of your own, most simply here: choose the file or drop it on the page, and the invoice appears laid out to read. A text editor shows only the XML code.

Can I convert an XRechnung to PDF?

Yes: show the invoice, then “Save as PDF or print”. The PDF is a readable copy; the e-invoice itself remains the XML file, and that is what you keep.

Does the viewer work with ZUGFeRD and Factur-X?

Yes. For a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X PDF the viewer shows the embedded XML, the part the recipient’s software processes. That also shows whether it matches the visible PDF.

Is my invoice uploaded?

Not for viewing: the view is built in your browser. Only if you also have it checked does it go to our API, where it is checked in memory and discarded.

Is the viewer free?

Yes, with no sign-up. The check costs nothing either.

Which files can I view?

XRechnung in UBL (invoice and credit note) and CII, and ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs with embedded XML, up to 5 MB. A scanned PDF is not an e-invoice and holds no data the viewer could read.
